Yamini graduated from Osmania Medical College in India and worked in Pediatric & Family Medicine clinics in north Texas prior to beginning her residency at East Jefferson. She is an avid reader, loves cooking (especially her native Indian recipes), traveling and spending time with her family & friends.

Casey Williams, M.D.

Also Chief Resident, Casey is a graduate of Southern Illinois University School of Medicine in Springfield, IL. He completed his undergraduate degree in Biochemistry/Finance from Washington University in St. Louis, MO.  Casey enjoys movies, watching professional baseball, basketball & football; and has taken up gardening as a hobby.

PGY-2 Class:

Nancy graduated from Ross University, and completed her undergraduate degree in Biomedical Science at the University of South Alabama. Nancy is a native of Gulfport, MS, loves the outdoors (especially the beach!), and her other hobbies include swimming, biking, fishing, traveling, and cooking.

Charlie Le, M.D.

Charlie graduated from the Medical University of the Americas, Saint Kitts & Nevis, and received his undergraduate degree at the University of California, Irvine. He lived in Houma, LA before coming to EJ, completing rotations at Chabert Hospital. Charlie & his wife have two children; he is an avid table tennis player, is involved in the church choir, bible study, youth activities & does computer repair.

Ali Bajwa, M.D.

Ali received his undergraduate degree in Biomedical Engineering from Northwestern University, Evanston, IL, prior to completing his M.D. at the LSU School of Medicine, New Orleans. He likes playing sports; particularly tennis, soccer & cricket; watching movies, or traveling to different parts of the world. He loves to spend time with his family, and enjoy “firsts” with his son Hamsa every chance he gets. 

Christina Leal-McKinley, M.D.

From Metairie, LA, Christina graduated from LSU School of Medicine, New Orleans, and completed one year of a surgical residency at Orlando Regional Medical Center before returning to Louisiana in 2008. After completing her Family Medicine residency here at EJ she plans to obtain a fellowship in Sports Medicine. Christina & her new husband are tri-athletes, enjoy traveling to exotic places to compete, partying with close friends, and spending time with her mom.

Christian Montegut, M.D.

Christian is a native New Orleanian who received his undergraduate degree in Biology at LSU prior to med school at Tulane School of Medicine. He is the son of Family Medicine physician Dr. Christy Montegut of  LaPlace, LA, where he will join his dad in practice upon graduation from residency. Christian is passionate about LSU sports, plays fantasy football, and enjoys spending time with his family and wife, Shelly.

Liem Ngo, M.D.

Liem is a graduate of Spartan Health Sciences University, Saint Lucia, and also received a degree from Cleveland Chiropractic College in Los Angeles, CA. He and his wife traveled from Des Moines, Iowa to Louisiana. Liem’s interests are computers & cars, and he also likes playing tennis & table tennis.

PGY-1 Class:

Thuy was born in Vung Tau, Vietnam, graduated from St. Matthew’s University School of Medicine and received her undergraduate degree in Anthropology from Wellesley College, MA. Thuy has worked as an overseas volunteer in the Philippine Islands, co-coordinated a refugee youth program in Wellesley, MA, and most recently participated in The North Carolina-Louisiana Prostate Cancer Project conducted in part by the LSUHSC School of Public Health. In her spare time, she enjoys leisure (non-medical!) reading and getting laughs from “Glee” and “Community” with her family.

Laura Dwyer, M.D.

Laura began medical school in 2004 here at LSU New Orleans. In August 2005, when Hurricane Katrina devastated the medical school & home she owned with her husband, Laura took a leave of absence and transferred to Northwestern University’s Feinberg School of Medicine as a second year medical student. Laura has two graduate degrees in addition to her MD, an MPH from Tulane University, and an MA in Medical Humanities from Michigan State University. She enjoys hiking, camping, cooking, reading (especially about global health issues), international travel, and the New Orleans Jazz Fest.

William Luster, M.D.

From Natchitoches, LA, Bill completed his MD at the LSU School of Medicine in Shreveport after receiving a BS in Biology from Washington & Lee University in Lexington, VA. In addition to his medical school & research experiences, Bill was also an intern for the United States House of Representatives in Washington, completed business coursework at NYU-Stern, and fulfilled premedical studies abroad at the University of St Andrews. Still a country boy at heart and with a particular interest in rural healthcare, he enjoys the outdoors, a variety of sports (especially golf), exploring New Orleans nightlife, attempting to cook, and is a licensed pilot.

Son Nguyen, M.D.

Son was also born in Vung Tau, Vietnam and is the husband of Thuy Bui, graduating from St. Matthew’s University School of Medicine in May 2009. Prior to pursuing his medical degree, Son studied optometry at the University of Houston, and holds an undergraduate degree from Rutgers University in Computer Science. Son worked as a senior software engineer and architect in San Francisco and Atlanta, and also worked with the Lockheed Martin Government Electronics System in Moorestown, NJ before deciding to become physician.

Theresa Nuttli, M.D.

Born in New Orleans and a graduate of LSU Medical School New Orleans, Theresa received her undergraduate degree in Electrical Engineering from LSU Baton Rouge. Theresa is the sister of one of our own, well-known Dr. Thomas Nuttli, Pulmonary Medicine. Before deciding to go into medicine, Theresa was the president of her own electrical engineering firm for five years. Theresa is close to her husband and son, who now is a freshman at Notre Dame.

Shari Rodgers, M.D.

As a native New Orleanian, Shari completed her undergraduate degree in Biology at Xavier University in New Orleans, and later graduated from LSU New Orleans School of Medicine. Family values are vital to Shari, so spending time with her immediate & extended family is very important. She also enjoys movies, softball and decorating her new home. 

Carlos Perez, M.D.

Carlos is currently Chief Resident and a graduate of St. Christopher’s College of Medicine, Senegal. He is a native of Miami, FL, and before beginning his residency he completed a research fellowship at the JMH/Miller School of Medicine in Miami as part of the transplant surgery team.  Carlos is fluent in Spanish, enjoys being with his wife, children, family & friends, likes to exercise, coaches soccer, and has an interest in automobiles & gardening.

Olga Perez-Valdes, M.D.

Olga is a graduate of the Universidad Central del Este, Dominican Republic. She was born in Cuba, lived in Miami & is married to former EJGH Family Medicine Residency Program graduate Dr. Michael Valdes. Olga & Michael have two beautiful daughters and enjoy spending their free time with family & the close friends they have embraced from the residency program.

Vivian Vu, M.D.

Vivian began her pre-med at the University of Minnesota, completed an undergraduate degree in biochemistry at LSU Baton Rouge, and received her degree in Medicine from Ross University. Vivian is fluent in Vietnamese, and likes traveling, interior decorating, arts & crafts, cooking & sewing.
